Volcanoes, baby!

Did a little bit of international travel last week and got to see an erupting volcano up close! I was one of those kids who was completely obsessed with volcanoes and lava and I admittedly never really grew out of it. Also, having some fire affinity, draconically speaking, has made letting the hot burny thing obsession hard to drop. Needless to say I was so excited when I found out we could get quite close, I was basically yelling the whole way there. We were close enough that you could hear it roaring over the gusting winds.

We did a ton of other cool stuff on vacation, but this was definitely the highlight for me, and will probably top a lot of future travel experiences for a long time.

oh that is SO COOL. I'd definitely have been thrilled too ! I've been on the Etna, which was also wild. It's a really alien landscape.

Oooh, Etna is a heck of a volcano! Was it erupting when you were there? I've heard it's pretty active. The volcano I was at you could basically walk up to it as long as you stayed upwind, but I don't know how close you can get to Etna safely during eruptions.

I'm pretty sure it was not? that or we didn't get close enough to see more than smoke, in my case. It's kinda lost to memory issues partially, but I know the images i get is mostly the black rock with snow on it, it was a very striking contrast. if i find pictures of it i'll try to share

What kind of volcano is that? It looks like a shield to me.

Good question, it's just a little fissure and cone, so I'm not quite sure what it'd be classified as. There are a bunch of shield volcanoes in the area though, so this may simply be a baby?
