It's official, I'm getting a rock tumbler! I haven't ordered it yet (waiting on my next paycheck), but I've picked out a model and am clicking the "add to cart" button as soon as that money rolls into my account.
I actually don't have that many rocks lying around that I want to tumble right now (most of them are in tubs at my parents' house, and I'm certainly not making them ship pounds of rocks to me...), but rock picking would be a great solo activity in the age of social distancing.
I haven't really decided what I want to do with the rocks I tumble yet, but I might set up an Etsy shop or just a page on my website where you can buy the rocks for basically the price of shipping and the materials (tumbling grit) I've used for that piece. Should be super cheap! That's assuming the rocks actually turn out nice, but there's gotta be at least a few in each bunch that do. I also might do some giveaways for follower counts or something over on Tumblr? I'm not sure yet, but this whole thing at least gives me a solo hobby to pass the time when I don't feel like working and hopefully a way to get rid of the buckets of rocks I intend to eventually tumble. This is all assuming people actually want tumbled rocks, but I know the stories of almost all the rocks I have, so that may be kind of a neat addition to the whole experience.
Now I just gotta get a camera for some nice professional headshots of the rocks I tumble... 😝
